Union Briefing

Members,

I met with Jon Harms Mahlandt and it appears the hiring and recruiting process has improved. People are moving through the process quicker and we're seeing higher numbers. My understanding is we have nine new hires for May and almost that many conditional offers for next month. That being said we are all tired and training is exhausting, however the only way we can improve is if we get good trainers for these new deputies. I know many of you are showing up and doing your job everyday and even if you can just pass on your knowledge one day a week please help us train our new recruits to the standard we were trained by. There is a new proposed FTEP revamp program and I'm hoping this gets implemented. If you might be interested in a future full time training position this could be an opportunity. I want all of you to know we're doing everything we can to try and improve our staffing issue because I know this is the number one issue affecting all of our members.

Also Retired Deputy Tony Smith is still recovering from open heart surgery. His liaison is Tim Barker and we're organizing a work crew to help him. The Sheriff has agreed to come out and help as well and so we're scheduling for May 7th. I'm hoping the weather isn't terrible and wanted to start early (8am). If you would like to help out please let me know. It will be power washing, weeding and some basic yard work. I was told Smith is getting bored so taking phone calls and texts! ​

Also I have put in our shirt order so hopefully they will be arriving soon. I want to thank all of you for showing up and continuing to work through this difficult time.
