This is a reminder, during any investigation, if LE of any type wants to talk to you about work related events, please, remember that you have every right to both a lawyer and/or a union representative being with you. This includes if you are at home.
The E-Board received word that an OSP Detective is now approaching members at their homes to conduct investigations. While this is their right, Members need to understand that for your own protection, having an attorney present is always in your benefit.
Simply asking "Do I need is attorney?" is not enough. Please remember the following sentence
"I will not be answering any questions until I have spoken with my attorney and/or a union representative. I will be in contact with you after that has occurred."
This is a statement. After this statement is made, you can leave the situation, close the door, end the interview. Contact one of your E-Board members right away after this has occurred and we can start the wheels turning to get you in touch with both the attorney and a rep. Your right to an attorney is paramount, and will keep you from misspeaking and those words being twisted to harm your future.
Again, even if you have done nothing wrong with the particular incident, questions asked that could implicate you in anything else that is a violation can be equally as harmful to your career.
Please reach out to your E-Board for any guidance or questions, we are available to you, for you, and to make sure we all have long and productive careers.
