Members have approached the board about coming back from leave without the ability to have worked MOTS and having to work extended weeks getting MOTTED. Some of our members forced off due to different situations like FMLA may struggle to be able to work for weeks or having a newborn at home, health issues or various other reason so we proposed a solution that would help. This proposal would not put them above members that have been continually MOTTED as it is. This proposal would only be for 2023 due to excessive MOTS deputies/sergeants have been forced to worked and would be re-evaluated December 2023. I know we're all tired and frustrated right now. Your board is doing everything we can to assist with hiring and continually checking in to keep our new hire count high. We're working on coming up with band aide solutions like these until we can get the chronic understaffing issue fixed.
PROPOSAL SENT TO CHIEF ALEXANDER:
Deputies and sergeants would be a given one mot on their mot count when these parameters are met:
- Types of leaves eligible: PPLF, Worker's-Comp, FMLA, MIL & Admin leave.
- Must be gone for three consecutive months for this to be considered but once the three months is met then the three months are included in the total considered for mot count.
- One MOT would be credited per pay period from when the leave started. Example, if you left January 20th and came back May 6 the total MOTS credited would be: 7. There would be no credit of a MOT for May because the member returned for the May pay period.
- This would only count for the current calendar year. This would only be applied for 2023. If a member is out for part of 2022 and came back 2023 that 2022 year leave would not count.
- There is a sunset clause that this will only apply for 2023 and will be re-evaluated December 31st 2023.
Respectfully,
Nicole Buscher
