Contract Negotiation Update

The contract team had another session today. The county made its first response to our economic proposals. It was underwhelming, to say the least. They will be posted in the binders at MCDC, MCIJ and the Courthouse. In summary, they are offering an 8% increase for deputies and 9% for sergeants on July 1, 2022. On July 1, 2023, they are offering a 5% increase. On July 1, 2024, they are offering a minimum of 1%, maximum 4% increase based on the West Coast CPI.

This is a far cry from what we proposed months ago. The county said they were not able to go forward with ANY of our many incentive proposals. We still have a long way to go in this process, and the team remains committed to getting the best contract for our current members, as well as a contract that sets us up to recruit and retain staff that will get us out of our staffing crisis.

Our next meeting is scheduled in two weeks. We will continue to update you on our progress. As always, please feel free to speak with any of the team members about your thoughts or questions about the process.
