Austerity Measures

The E-Board is responsible for the membership, and that responsibility sometimes brings the need to have difficult conversations. After looking at the finances, the cost of doing business, and overall the increased cost of nearly everything, we must look internally at how best to cut costs and retain our ability to maintain a large war-chest. This capital, on hand, is one of the reasons the county listens to us, because of the ability to fight any and all decisions. It causes them to tread lightly when making decisions, and sometimes (like Workday) even when the don’t, it takes time and money to eventually win the fight.
That being said, the COVID era practice of MCCDA paying for retiree’s food will no longer continue. This was $300 per retiree, which on some months has accounted for nearly $1500 in excess expenditures. This practice was started when Command staff stopped providing the money that was in policy, and we are currently speaking with the Sheriff about them stepping back up to the plate to fulfill their obligations.
We are also doing a full financial review of our expenditures and costs. Nothing is off the table, including the location of the quarterly meeting, donation amounts, and even the location of the annual picnic. This is a serious matter, and one that we treat as such. We hope to see our coffers grow to what they were years ago, and as we institute some of these measures, we will continue to evaluate their effect on the bottom line.
