UPDATE
Updated: Nov 5, 2021
Last week I met individually with 4 of the 5 county commissioners; to include chair kaffoury. The goals of the meetings:
Establish a better relationship with the county commissioners (politics)
Explain all the struggles of being a corrections deputy/sgt
Acknowledgement of the good work we do and prove the humaneness of our workforce
Discuss why the hazard duty pay tied to a contract extension is not good for our members.
After these meetings I felt a sense of accomplishment. The commissioners all admitted to a poor relationship with MCCDA. They apologized and asked I share with all members their regret for the poor connections. In the next coming weeks my goal is to bring each commissioner into the facilities and meet with our members.
I informed the commissioners a hazard pay tied to a contract extension was not in the best interest of our membership. It appears they were listening. Today, I received good information, the chair has decided to remove the 1 yr contract extension. Therefore, members will receive $1500.00 hazard duty pay. (Look for a follow up post with more info).
